Submitting Forensic Evidence
Forensic evidence is any material object that may be tested using scientific methodology yielding test results and testimony that is usable in a court of law.
The Center for Forensic Sciences accepts evidence in criminal investigations only. Submissions from the public or those related to civil cases are not accepted.
Evidence Submission Location/Hours
State Health Laboratory, 50 Orms St., Room 306, Providence, RI 02904. Evidence Receiving is open from 8:30 AM-12:00 NOON, Monday-Friday. Impaired driving cases from law enforcement agencies are accepted from 8:30 AM-4:30 PM, in Room 304.
What You Must Do to Submit Forensic Evidence
- Present a valid picture ID in order to receive a visitor badge at the reception desk.
- Complete and submit a Evidence Examination Request and Receipt form.
- Provide a copy of the police report for Forensic Biology/DNA submissions and Toxicology law enforcement impaired driving cases.
- The Center for Forensic Sciences Services Manual contains comprehensive information regarding evidence submission and services offered.
