Mission
To assure the safety of recreational waters in the state by testing beach water and swimming, spa and therapy pools samples for bacterial contamination.
What we do
- Analyze the concentration of enterococci bacteria as a measure of fecal contamination in beach water primarily when public and private beaches are open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
- Report beach water quality test results for public notification before next beach day.
- Analyze and report the total bacteria count in pool samples collected from hotel, recreational, athletic, and therapy facilities.
Accomplishments
- The Environmental Microbiology Lab conducted 2,552 beach and 104 pool tests in 2022.
