Mission
To assure the safety of food supply by testing food products for microbiological and chemical contaminants.
What we do

Test food products and ingredients implicated in investigations of foodborne illness

Identify and quantify microbiological and chemical food contaminants following strict international quality standards.

Test food collected during routine state surveillance of manufactured food products.

Report food test results to the electronic repository (eLexnet) maintained by the FDA.

Participate in the Food Emergency Response Network (FERN), a network of qualified laboratories that respond to food contamination threats to the national food supplies.
Accomplishments

Food testing and successful collaboration with the RIDOH Centers for Food Protection and Acute Infectious Disease Epidemiology protects Rhode Island from food borne illness by collaborating successfully.
