Dairy Testing
Mission
To assure the safety of dairy products produced in Rhode Island by testing dairy products for microbiological contaminants, proper pasteurization and drug and antibiotic residues.
What we do

Determine that dairy products are properly pasteurized when sold in-state or distributed to other states for consumption or further processing

Microscopically examine milk samples to be sure they are produced from healthy cows (somatic cell count).

Analyze dairy products for pasteurization, bacterial contamination, drug and antibiotic residues.
Accomplishments

Certified by the FDA to analyze Rhode Island and other state dairy products for its Interstate Milk Shippers List Program.

Performed 2,217 dairy tests in 2022 for bacteria concentration, somatic cell counts, drug and antibiotics, verify pasteurization, and temperature.

Evaluates "in-house" milk testing done by dairies in Rhode Island.
