Mission
To empower healthcare providers treating pregnant, postpartum, or pediatric patients in addressing behavioral health concerns.
This work is facilitated through two psychiatric teleconsultation lines:
- RI MomsPRN serves providers treating pregnant women and postpartum patients in partnership with the Center for Women’s Behavioral Health at Women & Infants Hospital. Learn more about RI MomsPRN.

These phone lines give healthcare providers treating pregnant, postpartum, or pediatric patients real-time clinical consultations with specialty psychiatrists to discuss patient diagnosis, treatment planning, medication safety, and referral support.
NOTE: These phone lines are for healthcare providers to call mental health clinicians for teleconsultations. These are not patient-facing phone lines.
What we do
- Expand the capacity of healthcare providers treating pregnant, postpartum, or pediatric patients to provide behavioral health care through real-time clinical consultation with specialty psychiatrists to discuss patient diagnosis, treatment planning, and medication safety.
- Maximize a limited workforce of specialty behavioral health providers, so more perinatal individuals and children with emerging or diagnosed mental health disorders receive early and continuous, culturally attuned support and treatment with a focus on the social determinants of health.
- Refer providers of pregnant, postpartum, or pediatric patients to community-based resources, including outpatient therapy, support groups and family visiting services.
- Support providers of pregnant, postpartum, or pediatric patients and medical practices in universal screening for behavioral health and substance use disorder in all of their eligible patients.
- Deliver assistance to providers treating pregnant, postpartum, or pediatric patients with substance use disorder, including but not limited to information on medication-assisted treatment and referral to substance use treatment providers and peer recovery supports.
- Offer opportunities for providers of pregnant, postpartum, or pediatric patients to attend professional education sessions, participate in comprehensive case-based training, and/or quality improvement learning cohorts.
- Enact relevant priorities of Rhode Island’s Title V Maternal and Child Health Block Grant and support other relevant public health initiatives.
